A market leader in specialty insurance, with a complex story to tell

Victor Insurance Canada is one of Canada's leading providers of specialty insurance solutions. They serve a professional and technically sophisticated client base: architects, engineers, construction firms, environmental consultants, technology companies, and employers navigating complex liability landscapes.

The coverage lines Victor specializes in, including Architects & Engineers Professional Liability, Construction Insurance, Environmental & Pollution Liability, Cyber Liability, Employment Practices Liability, and Errors & Omissions, are genuinely complex products. Understanding them requires navigating real-world risk scenarios, regulatory nuance, and coverage distinctions that can be difficult to communicate in a brochure or data sheet.

Victor's clients and broker partners are intelligent and time-pressed. What they needed wasn't more fine print. They needed a way to viscerally understand the risks their business faces and the protection that helps them.

Turning technical insurance concepts into content that connects

In 2023, the CDA's marketing team needed a campaign partner for a specific challenge: building consumer awareness of their product recognition program. The CDA logo appears on many skincare products, from Aveeno to CeraVe, Cetaphil to La Roche-Posay. The program's credibility was well-established within the dermatology community. The opportunity was to make it mean something to everyday Canadians. The idea was to turn a mark of professional endorsement into something people would actively seek out on store shelves.

It was a focused brief. Jester came in to help execute it well. What happened next was a relationship.

Each engagement building on the last.

Victor came to Jester in 2018 with a clear challenge: they had experts with deep knowledge and compelling perspectives on risk but no efficient way to share that knowledge at scale with clients, brokers, and prospects. The initial engagement focused on video interviews and case studies, capturing expert insights on camera across their core business areas. These gave Victor a library of credible, human-voiced content and established a working relationship built on trust, creative alignment, and an understanding of Victor's brand and audience.

As that work concluded, a new challenge emerged. Victor's team wanted to go further to create explainer content that didn't just share expert opinion but actively educated viewers on real liability risks using story-driven scenarios. The ask was ambitious: develop animated explainer videos from the ground up, in both English and French, that could translate specialized insurance concepts into content accessible enough for a business owner who had never filed a professional liability claim.

That meant writing scripts grounded in realistic claims scenarios, building storyboards that brought those scenarios to life visually, coordinating professional bilingual voice talent, producing custom 2D animation, and delivering finished assets in the range of formats Victor's digital distribution required. We were able to develop a full production pipeline and a new kind of partnership.

What began as a series of expert interview and case study productions has grown into one of Jester's longest-standing and most multifaceted client relationships. Over eight years, we've served as Victor's embedded creative production partner for animated explainer content by developing, producing, and delivering videos that span their full range of specialty insurance offerings.

2018 Expert interview series

Jester produced a series of on-camera video interviews and case studies with Victor's subject matter experts, covering their key business areas including construction, cyber, and environmental liability. The series established a shared creative vocabulary and deep familiarity with Victor's brand voice.

2020 Animated explainer videos

Building on the expert interview work, Jester was engaged to develop Victor's first animated explainer videos. The full production pipeline was established: script development in consultation with Victor's technical team, storyboarding, low-resolution animation drafts, professional voiceover coordination in English and French, 2D animation, custom music production, and multi-format post-production for online distribution.

Ongoing Ongoing series production

With a trusted pipeline in place, Jester has continued producing new animated explainer videos as Victor's coverage offerings and communication priorities evolve. Each new video builds on a shared understanding of the audience, the brand, and the technical subject matter, allowing Jester to work efficiently without sacrificing the quality or accuracy Victor's clients expect.

Each animated explainer video follows a full end-to-end production process. We begin with script development, working directly with Victor's marketing experts to translate real claims scenarios into narrative scripts that are both technically accurate and genuinely engaging. Storyboards are developed and reviewed iteratively before any animation begins. Professional voiceover is recorded by bilingual voice talent in both English and French. 2D animation brings the scenarios to life visually, while custom music production gives each video a distinct audio identity. Final assets are delivered in the formats Victor's digital platforms and distribution channels require.

The videos span Victor's full range of specialty coverage lines, and a consistent creative approach runs across all of the videos. This story is told by grounding abstract liability concepts in realistic, story-driven business scenarios. Rather than listing coverage features, the videos follow a protagonist, such as a business owner, a design firm, or a construction team, through a project journey where things go wrong, illustrating exactly why professional liability coverage matters and what the financial and reputational consequences of an uninsured loss can look like.

A library of content that earns attention in a category that rarely does

Over eight years of collaboration, Jester has helped Victor Insurance Canada build one of the most comprehensive animated explainer video libraries of any specialty insurance provider in Canada. The videos serve multiple functions in Victor's marketing and communications ecosystem: educating brokers on coverage nuances, helping prospective clients understand their risk exposure, and positioning Victor as an accessible, credible voice in an industry not known for creative content.

The bilingual production pipeline Jester established from the outset has allowed Victor to reach broker and client audiences across Canada without compromise. Every video delivers the same production quality, the same creative execution, and the same narrative precision in both English and French.

What has sustained this partnership for over eight years is not just production efficiency; it's the depth of shared context Jester brings to each new project. We know Victor's brand, their audience, their technical subject matter, and the creative register that makes their content land. That institutional knowledge makes every new video faster, sharper, and more effective than it could be with a new creative partner starting from scratch.

✦ HOW WE’D APPROACH THIS WITH AN AI LENS

The Victor engagement is a model Jester has refined over nearly a decade. If we were starting it today, AI would accelerate several stages of the production pipeline without changing the essential creative and strategic expertise that makes the videos effective.

Script development at speed. AI tools can rapidly generate multiple narrative scenario frameworks, including different protagonist types, different coverage lines, and different incident triggers. This gives Jester and Victor's teams a much richer set of creative options to react to early in the process rather than developing a single script linearly.

Multilingual efficiency. AI translation and localization tools can produce high-quality French draft scripts much faster than traditional workflows, allowing our human translators and voice directors to focus on nuance, terminology accuracy, and tone rather than baseline conversion. Quality goes up; turnaround time goes down.

Storyboard iteration. AI image generation tools can be used to rapidly prototype visual concepts for new storyboard sequences, giving Victor's team something concrete to react to earlier in the creative process and reducing the number of revision cycles before animation begins.

Content atomization. Once a finished video exists, AI tools can efficiently extract short-form clips, generate social captions in both languages, produce email copy, and create chapter summaries, all of which can multiply the reach of each production investment without proportionally multiplying the work.

What AI doesn't change

The need for deep subject matter collaboration with Victor's insurance experts, the creative judgment that makes a claims scenario feel viscerally real rather than illustrative, the relationship between Jester and Victor's team that allows us to move efficiently on technically sensitive content, and the production craft that makes the final videos worth watching. Those remain part of the human creative work, and that's the reason this partnership has lasted eight years.
